Jody and the Jerms
Christmas Chairs releases Nov 13, 2026, on INH Records
FFO Kirsty MacColl, Wizzard, The Darkness, Teenage Fanclub
Oxford band take aim at Britain's forgotten festive problem with an Xmas single. A feel-good indie-pop anthem inspired by family chaos, borrowed furniture and one guest-hating family pet.
Christmas Single
Most Christmas songs celebrate peace, love and goodwill. Jody and the Jerms deal head on with the very real festive problem of not having enough chairs.
This tongue-in-cheek Christmas anthem was partly inspired by a challenge during a BBC Introducing interview in December 2025, when it was pointed out that the Jerms had never released a Christmas song in their 6 years together.
Following the August passing of Jed, Jody and Niall’s much beloved but troubled rescue dog, who hated any house visitors with a passion, Jody realised they could have the challenge faced by families across the country every December. As guests arrive and dining tables expand beyond their intended capacity, the annual hunt begins for folding chairs, garden furniture and anything that vaguely resembles a seat.
The track combines festive humour with a surprisingly relatable story about making room for the people who matter most.
Jody said "As a kid, every year loads of people would come round and even when we’d borrow seats from neighbours, moved furniture around, got out camping chairs, we’d still be one chair short.
The single also carries an unexpected tribute to Jody and Niall’s late dog Jed, known for his strong views on guests or anyone trying to visit the house.
Niall said "Jed absolutely hated house guests. Every December he'd bark, growl and intimidate anyone who came round which made Christmas celebrations tricky.”
Rather than focusing on perfect celebrations, Christmas Chairs embraces the wonderfully chaotic moments that make the season memorable.
Industry observers have long suggested the UK is overdue another festive novelty hit in the tradition of classics by Wizzard or The Darkness, Christmas Chairs may not solve the nation's seating shortage, it could become the soundtrack to it.
The track will be released across major streaming platforms on November 13

Lyrics
My old dog didn’t like anyone round here
My old dog didn’t like you at all
But now he’s gone
And things have changed
You can come to mine on Christmas Day
But there’s just one thing, I ain’t got enough chairs, enough chairs
Not enough chairs, to seat you all
Not enough chairs to put around
My Christmas table
My old dog didn’t like a man with a beard
My old dog hated all the reindeers
But now he has gone
And though I am sad
You can come round to my Christmas pad
But there’s just one thing, I ain’t got enough chairs, enough chairs, enough chairs
Not enough chairs, tTo seat you all
Not enough chairs to put around
My Christmas table
I’ve got a guest list, and your names upon it
Please say yes and step right into Christmas
Got enough wine, Got enough cheer
Got enough for my Christmas table
Got enough cheese, Got enough Port
Playing on repeat it’s The Pogues on Kirsty
But what I ain’t got is chairs
I ain’t got enough chairs, enough chairs, enough chairs
Can you bring along a chair, along a chair, along a chair
I ain’t got enough chairs, enough chairs, enough chairs
Can you bring along a chair, along a chair, along a chair
Not enough chairs, to seat you all
Not enough chairs to put around
My Christmas table
I’ve got a guest list, aAnd your names upon it
Please say yes and step right into Christmas
Merry Christmas Everyone
I miss Jed
